JOTA 2009

JOTA (Jamboree Of The Air) is a special jamboree with around 500,000 participants annually.  Instead of all the Scouts and Guides gathering at a single location, there are many stations around the world with each linked by radio.

In 2009, the Winston Hills Girl Guides' JOTA station was attended by over 100 Guides and Scouts of all ages from as far as Annangrove in the north to the Blue Mountains in the west.  There were 2 special radios operating which allowed us to contact other Guides and Scouts in many parts of Australia as well as in the USA, UK and Canada.  It was great fun making new friends across the airwaves.  There were also many craft activities and games set up to challenge each participant.  We are also very thankful to the North Rocks Rural Fire Service who visited our JOTA station to teach everyone about fire-safety and allow the participants to climb through their truck.  This was quite exciting.

Winston Hills Girl Guides and Kellyville Junior Guides enjoyed a sleepover at the hall after the main events were over.  The evening consisted of a visit to the JOTI (Jamboree On The Internet) station at the Winston Hills Scout Hall, a visit to the local playground, a multitude of games not to mention the older girls staying up late into the night talking to a Venturer troop in Albury.
